Moving can be stressful for anyone, but this time can be especially stressful for your pet who doesn’t understand what’s happening. While cats and dogs are the most common pets, what about the less common pets like birds or hamsters? Today, we are going to look at tips for moving with these types of pets to make sure that everyone travels from your old home to your new Faber Builders Home in one piece!
Have a lovely little (or big) bird? Do they like to sit on your shoulder and don’t fly away? That’s great, but you can’t let them do that on moving day!
Moving is very stressful for birds and they get very jittery, while you might hate to put them in a travel carrier, it is really for their safety. Bring along some of your birds’ favorite treats, as well, for when you stop to take a break or get to your new Faber Builders Home.

While their home might be easy to travel with, it is safer to get a travel carrier for the trip. Make sure to obtain a travel carrier that your hamster cannot chew through, that means you should pick metal over plastic or cardboard.
Making the carrier feel safe is also a must, which is why creating a hiding place is one of the top suggestions among experts. If you’re traveling far don’t forget to attach a water bottle for your furry friend and bring some snacks for the rest stops!

Snakes aren’t the type of pet you can just put in a travel carrier and then you are all set. With a snake it is best to take them out of their home and place them in a pillowcase or a bag – and don’t forget to tie it!! The cloth material helps keep your snake calm during your car ride. Don’t stop there though!
After your snake is secure in their pillowcase place it in a box. This is so that if your snake wiggles out of the pillowcase they won’t get lost. You want to make sure the box has holes in, as well, as you don’t want do deprive them of oxygen. In the car, make sure your snake is snug between other items so that they don’t get thrown around, they also should not be placed in direct sunlight.

If you are moving with a fish you must be very careful, as the move can be traumatizing and fatal to a fish. Transporting them short distances is safe, and all you must do is place them in a bag filled with their old water.
Local pet stores have supplies for this – so don’t just use any old bag laying around your home. If you are moving a longer distance, it is safer to rehome your fish friend and adopt a new one after moving. While this is hard to do, it is overall safer for your fish.
For all pets, it is a good idea to avoid excessive handling. If you’re handling them too much it adds extra stress and there is also the chance your pet could jump out of your arms and scurry away or get lost in your car. It is also a good idea to contact your vet for any pet records if you are moving far.
